Throat exam

Follow below steps to perform the exam:

1. Connect the throat module and attach correct size tongue depressor (S for children under 5 years old, L for adults and children above 5 years old) by placing it into the throat module slot until it clicks and is locked into place automatically.
2. Click “START” before inserting the tongue depressor into patient’s mouth – the recording will start automatically.
3. Ask your patient to open their mouth widely, keep the tongue relaxed and say “Aaahhhh”.
4. Insert the tongue depressor into the patient’s mouth to 3/4 of its length, parallel to the palate and depress the tongue.
5. Once you get a good quality picture a green tick will appear on the upper right corner of the screen – you can remove the module from patient’s mouth and after that click “STOP”.

Remember about below hints:

• Look on the screen of the device and not directly into the patient’s mouth – remember you want to record the video, not see it yourself.
• If you don’t get a green tick check if the camera’s window is not foggy and clean it gently to remove any possible marks.

Avoid the most common mistakes:

• No tongue depressor attached or wrong size of it.
• Tongue depressor inserted not deep enough – visible front teeth or lips.
• The patient didn’t open the mouth wide enough.

• not inserting otoscope deep enough and therefore not visualizing the tympanic membrane
